EDA Invests in the Lower Savannah Region
/On May 30, 2012 the US Department of Commerce announced two investment awards in Aiken County totaling nearly $3.6 million in funding from the Economic Development Administration (EDA). Together, these two projects will bring 530 jobs and $1.2 billion in capital investment to the Lower Savannah region.
Aiken Technical College was awarded $2.6 million to construct a Center for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing in support of academic programs vital to creating a workforce for the growing advanced manufacturing, nuclear, and alternative energy clusters in the region.
Aiken County and Breezy Hill Water & Sewer Company, Inc. were awarded $895,000 for an elevated water storage tank which will bring needed water infrastructure in support of the expansion of Bridgestone Americas in the Sage Mill Industrial Park. Bridgestones new manufacturing plant will produce the companys large and off-road radial tires and will be the first Bridgestone plant to manufacture these tires outside of Japan.
